What's it like being a REGENT intern?

October 18, 2024

“Impactful.” “Enjoyable.” “Growth.” “Innovative.” “Rewarding.” “Empowering.” That’s how our “Third Wave” interns described their experience at REGENT.

Adora Lei, Business Development Associate, sat down with six members of our Summer 2024 intern class to discuss why they chose REGENT, what they took away from their experiences, and what advice they have for future interns.

Internship applications for Summer 2025 are now open. Apply here.

Here’s a lightly edited transcript of the conversation:

What makes REGENT’s internship unique?

“What's unique about this internship is the way that you get to interact with so many different departments,” said Charlotte Purkey, Government and Defense Business Development Intern. “I'm not an engineer, but I do a lot of interacting with the engineers, just sitting in either the intern corner or in the cafe. So, learning a lot about other disciplines has been really unique, and I've really enjoyed that part of it.”

How did this internship match your expectations?

“For me at least, at this internship I've done so much work,” said Irene Murzyn, IT Support Intern. “In the past, I've always gotten busywork to do. But at this internship, I'm doing a lot of big things, and I get to make the decisions for it.”

What has been your most memorable day at REGENT?

“I would say it was not just a day but a stretch of weekend where we encountered some very interesting challenges that we hadn't seen before,” said Jack Wang, Flight Software Engineering Intern. “We got stuck on some things pretty badly, and not only myself but my entire team came together … to get the problem resolved. In the end seeing everything work as expected was an absolutely rewarding feeling.”

How has it been fitting in at REGENT?

“From day one, we knew that we were meant to be a part of the team,” said Hannah Collins, Administrative Assistant Intern. “Everyone is so welcoming and kind here at REGENT, and it just makes you want to belong to this company and its purpose.”

What lifelong lessons will you take away from here?

“I've learned a lot about coding in this internship, which has been really cool,” said Julia Swarbrick, Seaglider Test Engineering Intern. “Especially with a mechanical engineering background, you don't really get into much in depth with [coding], but here you get a lot of depth.”

What advice would you give to future REGENT interns?

“Never be afraid to ask questions, because those small questions can not only clear things up for yourself, but also for whoever you're working with,” said Eliezer Zavala Gonzalez, Manufacturing Engineering Intern. “It can literally clear the fog, you know, like, ‘Oh, I didn't think of that. Let's try to implement that.’ And those start to stack up.”
